Beth White shares her remarkable journey into aviation, sparked by a daring thought: “If Beryl Markham could fly solo across the Atlantic in the 1930s, why can’t I?” What began with earning her pilot’s license, meeting an unexpected mentor—an 80-year-old airplane mechanic—and surviving breast cancer has grown into a renewed life purpose: fostering the next generation of aviators, builders, and innovators. Through her nonprofit, Habitat for Aviation, Beth has created hands-on opportunities for youth and adults to engage with aircraft building, maintenance, and flight training. She will be joined by members of the WOMEN BUILD PLANES team—an intergenerational group of Modern Rosies who are making aviation history by constructing an airplane together in Franklin County. Their story demonstrates that despite the fact that only 2.6% of airplane mechanics are female, women BUILD, FLY, and FIX airplanes.
