Girls on the Rise

We had the joy of hosting New American Youth on the Rise—a mentorship and enrichment program supporting immigrant, refugee, and first-generation youth in Vermont—for a full day at Habitat for Aviation. Their work centers on helping girls imagine futures in science, college, and health careers by surrounding them with a strong “cocoon” of support from family, teachers, counselors, and peers. We were honored to be one small part of that larger journey.

Working alongside our sister organization, EAA Chapter 613, the girls each received a Young Eagles flight, giving many of them a first experience in a small airplane and a chance to see Vermont from above. While they waited for their turn in the sky, they joined our WOMEN BUILD PLANES team in the hangar for hands-on learning—trying soldering, match drilling, and riveting on real airplane parts.

It was a beautiful day—we loved watching these young women step into a space that may have felt unfamiliar at first and leave knowing that aviation, science, and technical work can belong to them, too.
